Resizing, Returns, Exchanges, & The New Year
Come January 2nd, all jewelers know the 3 things that follow the flurry of holiday sales: Resizing, Returns, and Exchanges. Although a costumer may not have all the information at the time of purchase, he or she should know that they can cause unnecessary costs, delays, trips, and chagrin. The following are a few pointers to avoid trips from pillar to post:
- If your ring needs resizing, it is best to deal with a jeweler you trust and has a bench jeweler in-house. This assures against the risk of stone swapping and expedites the adjustment process since it will be under lock and key until it is ready for pick up.
- Most jewelers honor returns, but read the fine print of the transaction as it may have a time limitation. And, if the piece is customized, you may not be able to return it at all.
- Returns can be problematic when the jeweler doesn’t carry an exchange worthy piece. In addition, sometimes the value of the returned piece may not be priced apples-to-apples with another. In either case, make sure your jeweler has some depth of inventory with the clear value proposition for the new item.
